Safe and Effective Approaches to Weight Loss and Management

At House of Grace Treatment Center, we offer a structured, medically supervised weight management program that’s designed for real life — especially for people whose weight concerns are connected to stress, mood, trauma history, ADHD symptoms, cravings, or recovery from substance use.

Weight change isn’t just “willpower.” For many people, appetite, cravings, sleep, motivation, and reward pathways in the brain all play a role, often overlapping with the same systems involved in addiction and mental health. Our approach is built to support the body and the mind, with a plan you can actually follow.

Why weight and mental health are connected

Many people struggling with weight also struggle with:

  • Emotional eating, binge eating, or “all-or-nothing” patterns

  • Depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, or chronic stress

  • ADHD-related impulsivity and difficulty with routines

  • Substance use recovery, where food cravings can intensify when substances are reduced

Because these patterns are common, our weight management services are designed to include psychiatric insight, behavior change support, and medical oversight, not just a scale check.

Medication options for weight loss

When clinically appropriate, we may discuss FDA-approved or evidence-supported medication options as part of a broader plan that includes nutrition and behavior change.

Examples may include:

  • Semaglutide (a GLP-1 medication used for chronic weight management as an adjunct to diet and activity).

  • Phentermine* (a short-term option for select patients after careful screening/monitoring).

  • Topiramate (sometimes used off-label in certain situations, including binge-eating patterns; used thoughtfully based on risks/benefits).

  • Lisdexamfetamine* (Vyvanse) for moderate to severe binge eating disorder in adults that meet criteria after careful assessment.

*Important note: Medications like phentermine and Vyvanse are controlled substances and are prescribed only by a medical provider when appropriate. It requires screening, informed consent, and close follow-up to maintain safety.

Therapy-based approaches for lasting change

CBT for Binge Eating Disorder and Emotional Eating

If binge eating or loss of control eating is part of the picture, we use CBT-informed strategies to reduce binge frequency and build stable eating patterns. CBT is recommended as an effective treatment approach for binge-eating disorder.

Motivational Interviewing

We also use motivational interviewing (MI) to help you move from “I know what to do” to “I can actually do it,” especially when change feels stuck or overwhelming. MI has been studied as an approach that can support behavior change for weight management.

Mindfulness-based coping skills

For cravings, stress eating, and emotional reactivity, we teach practical mindfulness and grounding tools that support awareness, pause, and choice.

A realistic diet and exercise plan you can sustain

We help you build a plan around:

  • Your schedule, budget, and food environment

  • Protein/fiber routines that support fullness

  • Simple activity goals that fit your body and energy level

  • Sleep and stress strategies (often the hidden drivers of cravings)

  • Tracking tools that build insight without shame
